Bruneck/Brunico, the vibrant centre of the holiday region at the foot of the Kronplatz mountain, awaits visitors with a colourful mix of alpine charm and medieval architecture. Don't miss the old city flair of this small town, which has been awarded as " the most liveable" place in Italy.
With the map in our hands we start our historic tour at the Ursuline Church, in front of the "Tschurtschenthaler Park". We cross the park and the road which conducts to Reischach/Riscone and take path no. 22 till we arrive to the Soldier's Cemetery. From there the tour goes on to the Castle of Bruneck/Brunico by passing the suspension bridge which crosses the road or along path no. 22. The beautiful bishop's castle dominates the town from a hilltop and looks down on the old town. The castle houses the 5th mountain museum "MMM RIPA" of the famous climber Reinhold Messner.
The historic tour continues from the castle hill along the path leading to St. Katherine's Church and to the city centre. The eastern gate, also called "Bruno Gate", leads into the Upper Town, which is dominated by the "Sternbach Palace". Continuing east there is the big Parish Church. Going back along the same way, the tour brings us to the "Bruno Gate" and after about 100 m, on the right, through the "Rienz Gate" and cross the bridge, which leads to Bruder Willram Street, where there is the City Museum. Nearby, in Kapuziner/Cappuccini Square, you can see the Holy Spirit Church and the Monastery and Church of the Capuchin Monks. The last stop of the historic tour leads across the bridge in direction Graben/Bastioni, ending at "Floriani Gate".
